This month of January has arrived cold (yes, even in the Canaries) and a lot of news, here I summarize for parts
Anesthesia & Analgesia this month, there is a review article on the role that certain antiplatelet have on the patient in the perioperative period called "Antiplatelet Drugs: A Review of Their Pharmacology and Management in the Perioperative Period" .
Anesthesiology The interesting thing is the final review of the literature performed.
The Critical Care of Medicine, discusses the management of fluids in septic shock, with a sample of the study patients VASST ( Fluid resuscitation in septic shock: a positive fluid balance and central venous pressure elevated Are Associated with Mortality INCREASED ) and also the long-term complications with intensive care patients survive now that many of the UVIS ( Long-term Complications of critical care ).
The Current Opinion in Anesthesiology (Did I mention that I love?) Devotes much of this month's issue of thoracic surgery, with an update on pain management postoperative period after thoracotomy ( Perioperative pain management after thoracotomy), taking a look at two important concepts in the pathophysiology ("Hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction: Mechanisms of oxygen-sensing" and "Cardiac preload: hemodynamic physiology DURING thoracic surgery" ) and review three typical scenarios Thoracic (esophagectomy, lung transplantation and pneumonectomy), among other things. Worth reading the whole number.
The European Journal of Anesthesia , we read a good review on the aspiration ( Bronchoaspiration: Incidence, Consequences and management)
The International Anesthesiology Clinics , devoted its Toxicology this month, with updates on major drugs and their effect on surgery and anesthesia. Of particular interest, alcoholism ( The Anesthetic Implications of Alcoholism ) and reviewing the effects of the abuse of drugs in patients with chronic pain ( Drug Abuse in the Chronic Pain Patient ).
The Current Review of Critical Care offers a review of clinical management of severe hypoxemia ( Clinical management of hypoxemic Patients Severely ), complemented with a patch that was released in May 2010 to Chest ( Hypoxemic Severe Respiratory Failure Part 1-Ventilatory Strategies ). Besides, one of his articles devoted to reviewing the flu with a resurgent force in Critical units ( H1N1 viral pneumonia as a cause of acute respiratory distress syndrome ).
The NEJM is a review of general anesthesia: "General anesthesia, sleep and eat," very good, enjoyed reading.

Courses and Conferences
Do not forget that February 15th is the deadline for submission of communications for the National Congress of Anesthesiology , which will be in Madrid in May 2011.
11 and February 12, Hospital de La Princesa celebrates the seventh edition of the Perioperative Medicine course where, if all goes well, I find one more year. Here's the program, which is really worth.
For those interested in training in difficult airway, there is no more and no less than two courses this February, one in Madrid and another in Irun .
Finally, a symposium Update on the clinical use of opioids , in Catalonia and, for sufferers who are preparing the DESA, a preparation workshop the oral part.
Blogs and Websites
Anesthesia is the queen of the roost, no doubt. The entry that I found interesting this month is reviewing the Advanced life support in pediatric patients , Eugenio Martinez and Sara Hervilla. I recommend it. But neither is anything wrong Ana Abad, reviewing our use of TIVA in Pediatrics .
Anestesia2 , meanwhile, gives us a brilliant entry on advanced life support in adults , that complements a podcast , published in December 2010.
I added the section "Anesthesiologists in network," a new web: "Mere Anesthesiology, with very usable content. I encourage you to discover. His editor, who also is from page Asturcántabra Society of Anesthesia, is also beginning to make their first steps into the world of blogs with over 3.0 Game.
Did you know the epidural is a English invention? MiAnestesista tells us in this post . Sonsomar

I leave you with a song by Amaral. The letter says it very clear: I have to drop many drops to make this short glass of water.
